About Us
Hello there,
My name is Leo Cullen. Thank you for taking the time to visit my website.
This site will give you lots of information. If you have any questions, give me a ring or send me a text or email.
At the start, I wanted to say something simple to you. It comes from my experience of working over the years with people. And it is this. There are times in our lives when we just need to talk to someone. I am that person. If you need to talk and want to have a safe place to chat things through, then get in touch. I have studied many things over many years. But it all boils down to the fact that, in our lives these days there may be very few places where we can really have a good conversation and get stuff off our chests.
The people with whom I have worked would all agree that after conversations with me their lives are better. Many of them describe it in terms of having a better toolkit to deal with the ordinary problems of life.
In a nutshell, that’s my hope for you, if and when you decide to come and see me.
You can go ahead now and read more on the website. But I felt I wanted to say this to summarise everything at the start.
Again, welcome! I look forward to being of some help to you.
Sincerely,
Leo Cullen
Welcome
Leo Cullen has worked, for what is a number of decades now, with groups, couples, individuals and families. Bringing his considerable training, skills and experience in relationship, individual, and family therapies, Leo has developed a unique blend in style that is conversational, gentle and caring.
But, perhaps above all, Leo’s approach is individually tailored for each person to make their way through the ups and downs of life.
On its own, counselling is often about problem-solving. While psychotherapy has an element of counselling, and does indeed solve problems along the way, it also may yield deeper and richer results. As a psychotherapist, Leo realises that it is not only the content of what you are saying that’s important. But it is also the themes which you are introducing in conversation that are crucial to resolving the difficulties you may be facing. In that sense, the work of the therapist is to listen with curiosity and pure attention.
On your part, it requires a quiet willingness to notice (to use a phrase of the Irish poet) “the bits and pieces of your life”.
With his gentle interest and soothing presence, Leo sees himself as having guided conversations with those who are hurting. He often says “What good are all my degrees and learning if I can’t be of help to you today?”
Even if you’re not sure what the problem is, the first session or two will help you focus on the area to which you want to give attention.
You’re invited to a therapeutic space in order to notice your life.
That space is in the time and routine of your days as well as the physical space in which the process happens.
You’re invited to notice the spaces within you that may need attention.
The reality of noticing is a very gentle one, like the glance that doesn’t stare.
It is an invitation that Leo sees as very non-judgemental. He approaches all things with a quiet curiosity. Comfortable with listening, he sees himself as introverted and the therapeutic process as something very special, private and confidential.
All that is needed from you is a willingness to be open and a desire to be aware. In that way you will begin to notice where healing is needed. So also you will be introduced to new perspectives and find yourself noticing your own new growth too!
Please note that sessions by phone and/or by various online methods are readily available for your added convenience.
